Predannack Airfield
The Lizard
Cornwall

Visited with Incognito & One Other

I know this site has been visited many times before, but thought I would do a report to show the current inventory and state of the aircraft on site.

The Airfield is situated close to Mullion Cove on the Lizard Peninsula in Cornwall. The runways are under the operation of the nearby RNAS Culdrose, used as a relief landing site and for exercises. It also accommodates the Volunteer Gliding School 624 Squadron and is the home of the Royal Naval School of Fire Fighting.

There are many old airframes that appear abandoned, but are in fact old retired airframes used for personnel rescue practice (as can be seen by the positions of some, more so the Wessex's). There are also a few dummy aircraft used for fire extinguishing practice. These absolutely stink of aviation fuel and bonfires!

The walk to the site is very picturesque. I made the fatal mistake of trying to cut a few minutes off the walk and ended up thigh deep in a bog......I managed to squelched my way on to the planes.....

A Tape Deck? I am fairly reliably informed it actually holds encrypted navigation information for bombing, the encryptions changing daily. However, the cassette in the deck? "Thats What I Call Music 12!"

I'll chuck a couple from the day too, a very worthwhile explore was a great day and thankfully the weather was on our side. Watching Lectrician jumping off the bank expecting to land on a grass patch but rather splashing into a bog was the funniest moment of the day.

Just a few pics, we walked the kids about 8 miles around the Airfield just to get in! They loved it though, didn't take pics of all the Aircraft as we were to obvious with the kids in tow! :)
