Back in the days when exploring was all about ticking off lists of the various parts of asylums you had been in Whittingham chapel was one of those "impossible" buildings. Locked up tight, grills on the windows and no tunnel access left the building unexplored for years.
A bit of an unexpected opportunity granted Speed and I access. The chapel is one of the better examples of asylum chapel, with a rather grand ceiling, paintings on the walls and the remains of an organ. Work is being carried out to strengthen the roof after lead theft, so it is going down hill but it does look like somebody is interested in preserving it.
