George Barnsley & Sons, Sheffield - September '11

Due in Sheffield to watch a midweek football game, I decided to leave work early and pop in to see George and Sons having never been before. It would’ve been rude not to. I was a little rushed as I had a small window of time, but with many thanks to a member on here who happens to be a marine invertebrate, I was soon zipping around the place happy snapping.

This history of this place has been copied and pasted so many times that i'm struggling to give you anything new, but the basics are...

George Barnsley and Sons were England’s premier makers of shoe making tools. The company ceased trading as George Barnsley in the early 1990s, and their stock was absorbed by a company called Woodware Repetitions - still in Sheffield which is owned by Colin and Roger Barnsley. They now seem to specialise in woodturning tools. They are still making some leather-related tools.

The Barnsley name has been associated in the industry in Sheffield since the dawn of time and any more information required can no doubt be extracted from explorers daring enough to buy this for £8...
