Photos from a few visits over the space of a week.
History has been done before so shall keep it brief. 'The Bristol Hospital for Sick Children and Women', was established in 1866. It was built at the top of St Michael's Hill, had 102 beds and was supported entirely by voluntary contributions. It was later known as 'The Children's Hospital'.
A brand new 'Royal Hospital for Children' opened further down the road on 22nd April 2001. A fleet of ambulances started to ferry the patients from the old victorian building on St Michael's Hill to the new location. Since then, the building has been used by various groups, including the Children of the 90's.
Demolition is well underway of the more recently built hospital buildings which cover over half of the site. Only in the past week half of what was left a week ago has gone. I am uncertain of the future of the victorian buildings, but the whole place has been completely stripped out and asbestos removal people are in.
