Nearcliffe wood water tunnel runs approximately 1300m from Nearcliffe woods to just outside Edlington. The tunnel was built to transport water, where from and where to are unknown - there could be more sections of this tunnel yet to be discovered :thumb The tunnel houses a large metal water pipe which is now broken and redundant.

The tunnel itself is a bit of a squeeze to get in and out of and in places has been back filled with rubble, most of the tunnel can be negotiated by stooping with just a few tricky sections. The tunnel changes from natural rock to brick and back to rock in a few places with metal reinforcing to some parts of the ceiling.

All in all a nice little explore if you don't mind getting shitted up! Pics are a bit washed out as I didn't take my big torch so relied on the flash.

The way in,
