Clare Tooling System's also known as Excelsior Printing and Book Binding works. however their was very little evidence to show that was their so i will concentrate the report on Clare Tooling. Now it's fair to say that there has been some fantastic reports recently from Manchester and the surrounding areas it's also fair to say well this, this isn't one of them, still i had an hour to kill in town so made the most of a wet day and had quick look. the place is a mess inside with little worth seeing it's had more than it's fair share of vandals with fires and general trashing the place it's almost not worth it, until you get to the third floor where their are some nice little features and drawers still full of tech drawings and odd and sodds so this made up for some what a disappointing explore. worth a visit if you have nothing better to do or looking for somewhere to kick off your exploring career.
The history is a little thin the mill opened in 1870 by a Mr John Heywood and could employ up to 750 people, this was the book binders side of it the more recent workings are Clare Tooling which dates back about 75 years and evidence of textile and storage also. Enjoy or at least try and be kind on this one....
