Arrow Marchon chemicals, whitehaven, meet and explore. 09/06/07

I wasnt to sure if Horrgakx or brickman was going to shove one up, but anyway... I know there is a few previous reports, but with the likes of about a thousand pyestock reports, respectively, i thought it would be o.k doing a final farewell to the place.

Had a early start (5:45 pickup), got picked up by brickman and we headed for whitehaven. We met Horrgakx at whiteaven and headed for the plant. What a hot day again

Simple entry being ever present, quite comical really.

We did nearly the whole site, although i have done it before, this explore was very interesting, as before i did it 'guessing' what things were, now with the help of horrgakx, i understood the whole procces, with him being a ex-i.t technician there it seemed he got all over the site!

Well anyway, there are other reports explaining the site ina bit more detail, so i will show you some shots.

Thanks goes to brickman for the ride 'again', and horrgakx for a tonne of interesting facts...good explore.

First of all i thought i would give mono a try

Server i.t room

Low and dirty in the canteen

Eventually i thought it would be best if i changed to colour, with it becoming a hot day...

Thats me woohoo lol

I love shooting into the sun, especially when you dont have a filter.

A bit more being demo'd since my last visit, glad i waited for all the birds to get in shot for a change.

On our way to the canteen

From the canteen you can walk right into the s7 warehouse

We had along walk across the site to the gas turbines which gave a great deal of power to the plant, and the national grid. Not much to see, but interesting never the less...

and finally, we had a look at the mine on site, flooded yeah, but something i didnt realise it had. T'has Spring water which runs down from the hills.

Horrgakx was telling us that in the 50's a deal was setup to use as much water they wanted a year for a price around £1 (if i remember correctly) then, in 2000 (i think) the contract ended and the bill for water went into the millions!

spent hours sifting thru literally 4-500 pics that I took over two visits, and finally came up with these...

Dempsey scaling what was standing just a few days before

the albright & wilson colours smeared all over the crushing arm attachment on a demo digger

the biggest demo digger on site, really wanted a go with this but couldn't find the keys LOL

welcome to the green room

and the errr 'purple room' LMAO

in the super humid office building, found along with an ancient antique piece of networking equipment that horkgaxx got excited about.

found over at the minty boxfresh power plant at the other end of site, this thing (two gas turbines and a fancy set of boilers, can provide more info if anyone wants it) will probably end up going to china or india.

just because everyone else is doing B&W at the mo...

at the anyhdrite mine, BTW on the way over here is the fatty alcohol plant, smells like 3month old chip fat thats been left to rot in an alley way for another 10yrs, bloody nasty

Horgakxx in (almost) his old office when the site was erm, standing THe brick here is also of interest to me, made at teh askam brick works (that big shed on the way to barrow in furness) which is STILL going after god knows how many years
