Oldham Hill Stores Building & Ballroom - Oldham - August 2010
AKA: Co-Operative Society Building Oldham
Visited Solo
If you like absolute dereliction, a lot of pigeon poop and slippery steps then you'll love this place. I've been unable to get out much recently due to holidays and moving house so visiting this place, nice and local, was a must do as it has been since it first appeared on here.
The Hill store ballroom and hill store opened on October 1st 1904 and was designed by Thomas Taylor, the store itself was owned by the Oldham Equitable co-operative Society witch itself was formed by six working men who clubbed together to buy provisions for 15 shilings 75p and then sell at a profit, they rented a property first then later moving to Huddersfield Rd where they built Hillstore, the ballroom was built at the same time and was used right through the war until the 1980's when it became a live band hall
The Pictures...
Upon entry, you will be wowed at how this place lies dormant and in ruins.
