Hi all, thought I should introduce myself after some lurking in the shadows.

Living just outside Chippenham in Wiltshire and not far from Corsham and the notorious Burlington bunker its hardly surprising that I'm a little curious to explore some of these under ground citys and abandoned bases. I have explored Freestone mine a few time but lack of knowledge and ability to follow the map have somewhat restricted going to deep. Have been to the Cathedral though which I thought was definitely worth seeing.
Also wishing I took some more photos after exploring Coppenacre's JSU as they are pulling it down now :(

Already learnt of a few new places thanks to this site and hope to find many more.

    Hello there

Be aware that a newly erected fence now blocks the way to the backdoor at Box Freestone. It's still possible to get into the mine to the south at another entrance called Jack's, but it's long hike from there to the Cathedral.

Have you tried Swan mine, opposite the Swan Inn, at Kingsdown? It's the easiest mine in these parts.

There's an entrance just before the backdoor at Freestone although admittedly it does require a little climbing. Used it on Sunday with no problems. Also used Jacks entrance in the past many years ago. Under prepared with a group of friends and no spare batteries lol. I learnt then to take spare batteries and a spare torch but turned out ok.

Meaning to give Swan a proper look but again it's one of those I ventured in to the entrance but not much farther. It will be done this summer though!.

And thank you, I just returned from Hollybush mine in Neston thanks to your review, Was definitely worth a look.
