    H.J Berry & Sons - Chipping - Lancashire
    September '16

    History

The oldest part of the site is the 'Old Kirk Mill' which closed down in 1886 and was subsequently acquired for furniture making. The rest of the factory was built across the road at a later date and in 2010 shut down after calling in administrators. At the time of the closure HJ Berry was the country's oldest surviving furniture manufacturer, and prided itself on the fact that it hadn't sacked an employee in over 60 years. They turned down a £1 million offer by Sir Gerry Robinson as part of his Channel 4 'Business Rescue' series, this was apparently because the £1 Million came in the majority as conditional loans and the management team decided against it.

    The Explore
Having not been out in a week or two decided to head up here as I'd heard about it on the grapevine and despite not doing any research found my way in no problem on what was a beautiful day. Amazing views from some of the roads around here. Went without problem, a thoroughly interesting day. Visited with a non-member.

It is indeed @BrainL , when I first drove up to it didn't expect it to be as big tbh. What a shame, at least its not in the same state as The Moorcock...

Took a drive up there a few days ago, was there security fencing and doors chained up when you last went? saw a couple of security vans as well so admired the view from the outside for now
