Harrison's Point (Barbados), was home to an underwater listening station for the purpose of tracking submarines as part of the Sound Surveillance System (SOSUS). This US Naval base was opened in October 1957 and was decommissioned 31st March 1979. It has since been used as a base for the 'Barbados Youth Service' which to my understanding is a cadet-type service to provide young people with training and education that could help towards a further career in the military. The site was more recently used as a temporary prison after the former, HMP Glendairy, was destroyed during a riot in 2005.

I'd read about the lighthouse (seen below) and decided to check it out one morning, but had no idea about varied history of the site and the amount of other buildings available to explore. Unfortunately I don't have any information as to what the individual buildings were used for and when, so the titles are guesses based on the available evidence. There were plenty of signs of salvaging, cable shielding strewn around the site, as well as signs of metal cutting, such as the gates and cells.

This building had lots of references to the BYS, paper work, the separate male and female dorms and no signs of prison bars.

If you carry on down the track there's also a derelict lighthouse on the site.

Thats quite nice. I love the lighthouse, especially the shot down the stairs. Judging by the dates this place has some history to it. Nice work :thumb
