The Mill is Grade II Listed was built in 1907 and used as a cotton spinning mill by the Hartford Mill (Oldham) Company Ltd. The building was also extended in 1920 and 1924.

Probably of cast-iron and steel-framed construction with concrete flooring, brick walls and large areas of window. The building consists of 4 and 5 storeys, is 25 bays long and 12 bays wide.

The mill closed in 1959 and was used by Littlewoods as a mail order warehouse until 1992.

The mill, with the support of the owner, is now set to be demolished. It has been estimated that it would cost around £30 million to renovate the mill, and no one is likely to want to spend the kind of money on a property that wouldn’t have any practical use. Applications for delisting have been submitted, supported by the council and the owner, but the process can often take a significant amount of time. The council would like to develop the area to create around 370 homes.

Word of advise; if you’re planning on going, please be careful. Some of the floors are extremely unstable, and an 18 year old boy died last year due to falling from one of the top floor windows.

There are some lovely views from the top floor, we were fortunate that it was such a beautiful day.

No, they've still got to wait for it to get de-listed! There are sooooo many mills, we did 4 on Sunday.

Engine hall is the best bit IMO, still doable with a little ingenuity. I'd recommend a return if your in the area to see it before the tiles are mixed in with the rubble (more so than now)

Nice work, your certainly putting in the effort. The engine hall and the old boiler room are the best bits by far, if your in the area pop back in.

I'm not sure if the way through from the mill is still doable, last time I was there one couldn't get from rope race to engine hall due to the cast walkway being smashed up.
