Yet another area explored, so far me and Gazz have completed 4 urban explorations within 3 days, (gotta love paternity leave). After reading that a few people have tried to gain access to Hartwood Hospital, and living not far from it myself, I decided to give it a go - trying to urban explore a 'listed' building within Allanton we decided to try our hand at Hartwood Hospital, a place many have explored before.

Off I go speaking to the security guard with a big dog, who says that before he will let me in I have to get permission from Hartwoodhill Hospital further up the road, so off I go, speaking to reception who says that the buildings co-ordinator wont be in until tomorrow.

Unheaded, I went back to big dog security guy and told him what the other person says at Hartwoodhill, told him that I would park my car across the road and just walk up, is that ok with him?... of course it would, so with "security's" permission off I go towards the hospital (what a bluff), me and Gazz armed with the trusty S9600 & GX-10.

Oddly, the overview map taken from Microsoft's Virtual Earth is zoomed in enough to see Hartwood to allow me to map my pictures, however, it must have been split over 2x scans as the colours and details change straight down the middle. I actually think that the one at the top is newer, as the bottom cut doesn't show the roof of the main building fallen in.

If you click on this link http://img291.imageshack.us/img291/3804/overviewwf8.jpg it should open within another window allowing you to reference the photos to the map. :crazy

Picture 2: Closeup of the gates surrounding the building, security & danger warnings

When wandering around, its very difficult to establish exactly where you are in relation to the overview map, if I visit again, i'll get a more established photo - map guide Pictures 3 - 6 are around the middle of the hospital.

Picture 3: First picture from inside. Kitchen staff only sign
    [IMG]

Picture 4: Burntout room, single standing radiator, possible benches to the right
    [IMG]

Picture 5: Strong evidence that this was a dual floored evidence, the top level totally destroyed by fire
    [IMG]

Picture 6: Outside view of the burtout building - unposted picture states "General Store"?

Picture 7: Panorama image showing full size of chimney beside boiler room
    [IMG]

Another general overview, I know the rooms were close to the entrance to the towers but cannot pinpoint exactly using the map

Picture 8: Rainbows, desks & chairs, possible leftovers from LTV?

Picture 9: Tiles on floor could indicate some sort of shower room or toilet facility
    [IMG]

Picture 10: Something still urges me to believe that LTV were here, just cant figure out why :)

Picture 11: Something tells me this puppy wasn't doing it's job, possible LTV sabotage?

Picture 12: Indications that this could have been a recreation room for staff or patients
    [IMG]

Picture 13: Some sort of day care or waiting room, possibly more chairs have been removed
    [IMG]

Picture 14: Broken typewriter or fax machine at the entrance to the burntout tower
    [IMG]

Picture 15: Electricians Office - not able to gain access inside
    [IMG]

Picture 16: Possible caretakers office or workshop, extreme paint or turps smell, no facemask with me, so reluctant to enter
    [IMG]

Picture 17: No signs to indicate what these outbuildings are and unable to gain access inside
    [IMG]

Picture 18: Courtyard view facing two towers - left tower subject to fire damage
    [IMG]

Picture 19: Small area behind electrian shed, no idea what the building are and cannot gain access
    [IMG]

Picture 20: Same side as picture 2, taken from different angle within the gates
    [IMG]

Picture 21: Front right of building that was subject to major fire damage
    [IMG]

Picture 22: Photograph in the window of the main hall, fire damage prevents entry
    [IMG]

Picture 23: Large building to the left of the main entrance, no access - can anyone spot Gazz's Urban Exploration??

Re: Hartwood Hospital (again) - Hartwood, Lanarkshire - 17-03-07 - REPORT

Finally Murdy, you have done this thread - now I can add my photos.

Because we asked permission to get into the Nut-hoose, we didn't want to take too long in case the security guard came looking for us (had we been inside for ages). Next time (when we sneak in) we can spend ages in there. We were in there for over an hour but there is sooooo much to take in that you cant see everything if you rush stuff.

I would have shit myself if we had bumped into someone else while in that place. I almost shit myself when a rabbit ran out in front of us !!!!

Murdy, you never mentioned "Peter: The Hartwood Dube Dube" in your post !!! While we were getting 'permission' from Hartwoodhill hospital we had an encounter with one of Hartwoods finest residents. (He thought he seen us with a dog?!?!?! WTF??? --- We dont even have a dog !: Weirdo... no wonder he is in a place like that).

Anyway, here are a few of my pics:

Could have come in handy when the tower was on fire:

Does Flammable mean the same as inflammable ???

The stairs had collapsed in the burnt out tower:

Half-way up the burnt-out tower; the stairs had all fell on top of each other:

Damn you M22rdy !! I have loads more pics that I was going to put on but they are very similar to yours so I'll just keep them in my photobucket account and not bore everyone with 2 images the same....

P.S. - For anyone else who has been to Hartwood before; does it remind you of 'Silent Hill' or is it just me who thinks that ???
