My third visit to the colliery and this time things are in full swing. The headstocks are working and the coal seems are reached. The old lamp room has been demolished, and the baths will go in the next few months. But although the demolition of the old buildings is sad, I cannot feel too bad because it is in the name of progress that they go. They will be relaced with new custom built buildings for a new age of coal mining. I was lucky enough to meet up with a fella I've been e-mailing and got the full tour, through the winding houses, power house, fan house, baths control room and workshops. I took 500 photos and learned a great deal about the mine and coal mining in general... a great morning out!

Maps in the 'rescue room', were buried under dust and paint flakes. I 'rescued' them ;)

Scar on the winding house where the winder 'over wound, and sent the end of the steel cable flying round the headstock wheel, 'flicking' the end into the side of the winding house

Fan house, which flushes the mine with clean air. The GEC fan is over 40 years old and still going...

Reminder of Hatfield's sister mine... long gone

I cannot believe this is still there!

Quite sad, this picture was entitled "dawn of a new era", from when clipstone was bought by RJB. It is to be demolished this year...
