Some great tunnels at stainborough that have no report yet pal they are on private land but easy access. I believe them to be the stainborough castle tunnels. the woods have collapsed and left a entrance that show a huge tunnel approx. 8foot tall and going so far i couldn't see any end to it i would love to venture further in but im a pussy :) let me know ill direct you. i have photos of entrance if you want them

In Sheffield, there are some great places to explore- particularly old industry buildings in the Pitsmoor and Shalesmoor area. Sheffield Ski Village is interesting- the ski village burned down in 2012 and has been left derelict since, so as an outdoor exploration it's pretty good going. Old Breweries in and around the same area, take a look at this list of them all here: http://www.breweryhistory.com/Defunct/YorksSouth.htm

Then there is Megatron to explore, which is the underground network of channels for the river Don, which was used as a means of supplying and transporting goods (among other things) to different buildings which may have been shipped in. This one needs care when thinking about exploring, and definite wet suit. Make sure you know what's going on with the water levels and rainfall recently before picking a date to check the underground Megatron tunnels out obviously!

Apologies for bringing up an old thread, but this quote from John caught my eye when searching for places near Barnsley to explore.

If John or anyone else reading this can give me more info on these tunnels I'd really appreciate it.

Rumour has it they go under the statue at wentworth castle and were used to travel quickly without having to go through the gardens. However, I may be wrong, I just have gone on what I could dig up myself. I am from Baaaaarnsley and didn't know about them till a few months ago

That's all I've been able to find about these tunnels as well.

I was talking to the mother earlier about it trying to find out a little more, as both her and my sister used to work there. She said a room was discovered under the hall that might have had swimming pool, but it got filled in with rubble.

    Hi John,

Is this the tunnel you mean? It's all I found.

A coal tramway from Silkstone Wentworth Colliery ran through here, though to where I don't know. It's blocked off a few metres in.

I've read a tunnel ran from either Wentworth or Stainborough Castle to a farm north of here (this one runs west to east) so it's doubtful it.

Hi - I've been on the site before, a few years ago, but can't remember any log in details! I'm in the South Yorkshire area aswell and I'm keen to get out and about again if anyone's heading on an adventure!
