    Hey 28DL,

I've been doing bits and bobs of exploration around south Cumbria, mostly in forgotten woodlands.

There is quite a few abandoned buildings and places around here I've been itching to explore since I started University. And now that I've graduated and got myself a good camera, I'd like to actually do it.

I'm looking for advice regarding the law, some abandoned places in my area are protected by security companies (areas where property is planned to be developed) and I'm currently looking for long term work which will probably require DBS checks so I'm not super keen about ending up with a caution (if that can even be given for breaking and entering)

If I am stopped by police what usually happens? What are my rights and what should I do? Can it be passed up as a misunderstanding?

Thanks, and I look forward to submitting to the community in the future!

Welcome along to 28DL, there's a fair bit in South Cumbria and some stunning mines.

In the main trespass is a Civil offence, the same as wandering off a path in a farmers field, when told to get off my land that's what you do and nothing more should come of it. That's as long as you haven't damaged anything, stolen anything, or sprayed graffiti all over the place. Also having tools on you isn't a good idea.

There are some exceptions to this rule when trespass becomes criminal, railways being a prime example. I think a lot of it is covered in this thread http://www.28dayslater.co.uk/trespass-law.t47513

Look forward to your first report :thumb
