Hemerdon Ball was first discovered for it Tungsten/Tin deposits in 1867. The mine first opened in 1917, as demand during the war increased. Since then the mine has been opened and closed many times, along with varying developments. The last full scale operations ended in 1944. From 1944 onwards there have been various explorations into reopening the mine, but it has yet to come to pass. Currently Wolf Minerals Ltd are looking into opening the mine this year, with full scale production expected for 2012. Hemerdon is currently rated as the 4th largest deposit of Tungsten in the world.

Had a couple of visits here recently. Got at least one more planned to try and find the 'shaft' that I have read about! Picture heavy, the sun setting one time I went just made for some brilliant photos that I couldnt bring myself to leave out.
