    Went for a look at this industrial site recently. I had previously visited almost ten years ago when the site was semi active and there was always talk that the site had been sold for development. The site has been fully closed down for a good few years now, but the debate about using the site for housing still continues. Refractory materials are used in the steelmaking industries for their heat resisting properties.

    This is the approach from the car park towards what was once the changing rooms and wash house. Working with refractory materials is a dirty line of work. From here you have a recreation building on the right and a bridge across the river leading to the main plant on the left. Straight on, past the old buildings and out of site, is a modern water treatment works.

    The washhouse sinks;

    I didn't go down the stairs, but it wouldn't be a surprise if some pumps had once been sited down here;

    Across the bridge and onto the industrial site;

    Nice brickwork for a site such as this;

    [IMG]

    Mostly the site is stripped of machinery;

    [IMG]

    But there is the occasional piece still about;

    Inside another building, the foundations of one of the last machines to stop operating can be found. It was an 84" Grice circular saw, the blocks being moved under the saw using the railway lines. I am assuming it has been removed and is now perhaps operating at a similar plant near Bawtry.

    Some molegrips;

    Out of this shed and into another large one. This one stripped for a number of years]

    But now used for gameplay;

    Outside this shed is the chimney;

    These ladders, although distorted, appeared to be sound from the bottom. It isn't a very high chimney and the views offered will be limited as the site is in a valley.

    [IMG]

    Remains of a boiler;

    And a boiler house;

    On the way out an old Kiln control panel was found;

    So to sum up a fairly large, but mostly spoilt site possibly worth a look for anyone near Sheffield who likes industrial sites.
