Visited with TCake and exploring daughter, a chance find , nothing exicting but the place had its charms, and some weirdness too, animal cages in the upstrairs rooms of the cottage attached, history is scant but...

The second surviving Tower Mill in Barton is Hewson's Mill situated down Waterside Road. This mill was built around 1813 for Cook and Sutton and was a corn mill. This is an eight storey mill and it was fitted with Sutton's Patent Gravitated Sails for Windmills. George Hewson took over the mill around 1849 and continued here until Elam Hewson took over around 1868. Finally John L Hewson took over in 1918 by which time the mill was driven by steam and not wind. By around 1926 it had been converted to run on oil but did not run much after this time. Hewson's mill still survives today but is in a very run-down state.
