Hickson and Welch Chemicals – Castleford – April 2011

Land rover patrols, hideouts at +100 ft, a nerve testing bridge of doom, toxic marzipan smells and stunning warm sunny rays bouncing off acres of pure industrial decaying porn. This is the Pyestock of the north. It’s underexplored and it’s epic!

Visited with Gone, Millhouse and Mole.

After dodging a cute puppy in a breakers yard on the way in we found ourselves in the site seeking cover amongst big pipes. We were expecting to encounter badman cycle riding seccas but instead we were greeted by pyestock'esc half hour land rover patrols. When will they learn and start using quiet cars? Either way they seemed content with cruising around so we got involved.

We climbed the tower on the island, the views were immense. We heard the cheers from the local stadium as we reached the top.

Then we had to navigate the bridge which connects the island to the main site. There are a few ways to go about this. Naturally we opted for the most ridiculous.

This area stank of marzipan. Not a good thing iirc.

Would have liked to climb the main tower but it was getting a bit late so we took on the bridge again and then headed to the local for a few cold ones.

Got to have been the most fun and laughs I’ve had on an explore recently. It was a fairly nice and relaxed time taking in the rays and the sights. Shouts to the others involved. Looks like this place will be around for a little while longer too.

    Cheers. Sho.

There's a lot of demolished buildings near the river, did it used to be here?
