Well, this place is amazing. The view from the top of the chimney is unrivalled, even if it is a bit of a trek to the top. But the main buildings are like nothing else. The power is still on to a lot of parts, lights work, the phones work. Nothing is smashed. The size of everything is just mad.

We spent about 5 hours inside, and saw a lot, but still by no means everything. Quite a few rooms are still locked (most notably the Instrument Rooms), but there is just so much to see. There are rooms and rooms full of buzzing switchgear, a whole floor of the control block is just filled with batteries for the control system, the empty main transformer rooms with 30' high insulators. I really didn't take photos of everything, it was a bit of a whistle stop tour.

We had some issues with security but nothing major. I'm fairly sure the cameras on the roof are broken (there is a pile of dismantled ones in the workshop as well). The guard drives round a lot, but is possible to avoid.

If you are planning on doing the chimney, I'd advise taking water, something to eat, and a dust mask (the fibreglass insulation and pigeon shit is pretty hardcore). We got cornered making our exit by some bird of prey wielding a dead pigeon as well.

    Anyway, on to the photos:

And the link to the whole flickr set of Inverkip PS.

Re: Inverkip Power Station Chimney and Main Building - REPORT - 8/4/07

I just made a whole new load of photos public on flickr if anyone wants to take a look

Powered up governor and AVR for a generator, shame it has been sold to the third world:

Google earth impression from the top of the chimney:

The jetty from the top of the chimney at 380mm and it still looks miles away. Check out the red phone box which has been in other reports:
