I walked passed the Keswick tunnel near the A66 a few days ago, this tunnel has been blocked off with soil but someone had dug a hole into it. I couldn't see how far it went. Has anyone on here explored this tunnel at all? The tunnel entrance is just west of Keswick where the A66 Greta Viaduct spans the valley.

The railway seems to be a good bit north of Greta Viaduct, are you referring to Briery Tunnel?

Apologies. It is part of the old railway line that went from Keswick to Penrith. I would imagine at least half of the tunnel no longer exists as it goes under the viaduct and i am sure the viaduct builder would want firm foundations. The tunnel rises as you approach the viaduct and only a small section of the arch of the tunnel sticks out of the ground. Someone has dug a small hole and tunneled under the arch but how far in they got I have no idea. I was wondering if it was the work of someone on here.

This is probably, Brigham tunnel and cutting, three quarters of a mile east of the station, were filled in when a spur to the viaduct carrying the A66 northern bypass over the gorge was constructed. Sustrans have replaced this missing link by constructing a timber walkway. All eight bowstring bridges (some upright some inverted) and the short brick lined Wescoe tunnel have been retained, the path ending at Threlkeld station.
