Kilmington Quarry has been extensively worked for the last fifty years providing grit and sand for the ready mix concrete industry. At the beginning of WW2 the quarry was used to supply the materials needed for the building of runways at local aerodromes such as those at Dunkerswell and Smeathorpe which were being used by American Liberator bombers.

This site is part abandoned and part live (as I discovered when I wandered too close to the live cement works and a recorded voice told me to leave now or there'd be trouble!) Luckily I had already taken most of the pictures I wanted so I wasn't too disappointed! ;)
