The Hospital was founded in 1831 & by 1929 special feature available included Turkish, Russian & medicated baths & electro-medical department. The Infirmary was also approved for the treatment of Veneral Diseases :thumb

The New Road Campus has been home to it"s various named College incarnations since the 1967 when the College paid £105,000 for the site. New buildings were opened in 1967 with the main block being opened in 1971. By 1978 they were 8,000 Students attending the college.

The site which now consists of 10 linked buildings totaling 342,000 sq/ft over a 6.1 Acre site, which includes the original Grade 2 listed Hospital buildings, with it"s impressive original sandstone columns identical to those on the nearby Huddersfield Railway Station. With the statue of Edward the VII now looking over the car park.

The College has recently moved into a new purpose build waterfront development for £60M  which will welcome @20K Students.

The old site has been purchased by Oldham based Wiggett Construction Company for an undisclosed sum:confused: Suggestions for the site include a Supermarket, a Care or Medical Centre, with the final potion un-allocated. The local Lidl has confirmed it will move to the new location from it"s local Castlegate site.

Huddersfield is not a place i frequent often. I find it too much like Bradford, all doom & gloom & full of Druggies who ironically, had curtailed my first trip prematurely when i"d previously recce"d this place in the Summer . I"d completely forgotten about the place, so thanks go too @albino-jay for bringing this location back into the limelight, with his quality recent night-time report :thumb And thanks for the pointers mate :thumb

Called down one typically Yorkshire gloomy day for a recce & met up with @The Amateur Wanderer later on & decided to return on another much more gloomy freezing & wet day :( (nice too meet up again mate :thumb had some laughs & frights along the way ;) I must say even with 3 jackets & 2 pairs of trousers on it was bloody freezing, must have been the big Razor Wire rip in my arse lol

The site itself is vast combining old & new construction techniques & buildings, so one minute you"re inside a modern day facility the next you"ve stepped back in time. The only thing they both share is the fact they"ve been well trashed. It looks like the Metal Fairies have been very busy over the last 3 years & is very reminiscent of DRI / Clayton Hospital with added Razor Wire on top. But has lots of hidden nooks & crannies to keep you occupied for a few hours at the least.

Obviously there"s a varied usage of the site from Hair & Beauty, to Biology & Science labs to English & other subjects foreign to me :) So the remains again are varied in what"s left. There"s at least 3 Tower blocks of nothing but Derp so bad the views would have been the only redeeming feature, if it hadn"t been both foggy & pissing it down like a Monsoon.

I should add that lots of rooms & corridor"s have been altered for Filming purposes from what we can work out. With smoke & soot effect paint applied to walls/windows & curtains . And old beds & equipment placed....before being strategically re-positioned by us lol

Edit.......No Clowns or Masks were used in the making of this report :D

As always, thanks for looking :thumb

Edit with regard too a mention of Fires inside i can"t comment on this as i don"t remember seeing any fire damage as such apart from to confirm what i wrote above regarding the Film Set thing.

Picture No7 is a good example and you can see where the paint/soot whatever has been applied and where it stops. Also the paint brush marks left on the glass of the windows

Very nicely done, great set of pics :thumb

That's a couple of reasonable reports in as many weeks, someone changed your medication :p

Yeah, there's quite a lot to see when you get out the stripped hallways and into the rooms. You've captured it very well in my book.

I'd click 'like' on this report ordinarily... but Huddersfield is a beautiful, magical place and is nothing like Bradford thank you very much. I've never been so insulted! :)

TBH i physically hate posting stuff, it does my head in literally suffering daily Migraines the last thing i want to do is spend time on the PC unless it"s for educational reasons of course :thumb

And there was no competition on who posted first with @The Amateur Wanderer ;)

Yeah it"s not all bad here as you know mate, it"s just finding the good bits

But the comparisons are unfortunately correct....admittedly with most other cities it seems these days :(

Was a decent explore, cheers for the company mate! surprised to see how much of the old infirmary building actually still resembles a hospital after all the years that have passed since closure, bit of a weird one!

Cracking pics and report btw :D

Yeah you know i"m only joking mate, apart from the druggies obviously

It"s not a place for Torches that"s for sure. Well if you want an extended visit i"d suggest daytime, you"re certainly gonna be spotted, and with the state of the place you need a Torch to walk anywhere.

I"m surprised it"s as bad as it is TBH i always thought it had been sealed pretty good....obviously not ....just like Clayton :thumb

I think we were inside slightly longer than you mate, you did well as it"s bloody dark in there in the daytime ;)

And it"s one of those sites where you expect too meet either Metal Fairies or Crack-heads at every turn which is never good for the Bowell"s i find ....or is it just me :coat

It's Defoe not just you mate. I was on edge big time. Didn't help that when I was mid way through taking a long exposure, head torches off my mate lets a CO2 extinguisher off in the doorway behind me. Bricks well and truly shat.
