The searchlight battery in the cliff above Langdon Bay in Dover is currently inaccessible due to a chalk fall taking out part of the path that leads down the cliff to them. I know it's not a big site but anyone who's been will know that it's a fair walk to Langdon Hole and then down the path so I thought I'd put this up just in case anybody had any intention to make the trip. I have searched for a similar thread and haven't found one. I'm not sure how long this has been the case, I was there in the evening about ten days ago and would guess that it was the storms and high tides we've had over the last month or so that did the damage. On the same note you can't reach the ladder down onto the shore either and therefore the SS. Falcon is also inaccessible. I can't say much with regards to the state of the searchlight battery itself but I know that one of the emplacements was lost to a similar fall at some point in the past. I'd welcome any further information. Here's DarkDog's report from 2009 as a point of reference:

It's a shame but that will save someone a long walk.

Not a clue Wevs, it was the first time I'd been in about four years. I hadn't read anything about it and couldn't find anything via the search bar so thought I'd put it up. I assumed it had happened with the storms we'd been having but that is nothing but an educated guess!

This happened last year sometime. I remember seeing the news report. That path never felt safe though it was bound to happen sooner or later. Cheers for posting tough mate. Suppose anyone not local wouldn't have seen the local reports when it happened.

Thats a shame. Its one of those places I always wanted to see but as Dover offers more exciting things to see I never bothered going all the way down the path! Wish I had now :banghead
