Ive walked my dog round the back of this school many times, love the look of the building so always checked access, recently it became good and i could finally scratch my itch. Visted with a non member we was a bit dissapointed really, suspended ceilings hid features and a few solid clean new doors inside stopped some play. Anyhoo it was fresh air and got us out on a misting cold Sunday morning.

Cant find to much history on this place but here goes!

Gainsboroughs Lea Road Infant's School was Built in 1906, opened as Lea Road Council School the same year. For at least thirty years of it's life this was an infants (up to age 7) school, but as time past it had served all school ages. Lea Rd school had it's own indoor pool which you had to climb up into, the pool was built in about 1966 in the end ground floor classroom.

Closure was in 1993 where it converted to a business centre, until 2010 i believe, where it has been left empty and slowly fallen to the hands of the chavs and thieves.

The wooden cupola atop Gainsborough's old Lea Road School probably doesn't serve any purpose beyond a decorative one, but is something of a Town motif: there are similar Cupolas atop the Town's Library, Ropery Road School, the Town Hall and Gainsborough House. All of course pay homage to the originals, which are on the Towns magnificent Old Hall.

Few pics from a bad bunch, no full frontage shots as police turned up outside, not sure if they come for us but didnt hang around to find out.
