Climbed with Urban Surgeon and Coleman.

Leith Hill near Dorking in Surrey sits 294 metres (968ft) above sea level, and is arguably the highest point in the South-East of England. Whilst still magnificent, the view from the ground is somewhat obscured by trees and the surrounding woodland.

Richard Hull had the intention of raising the summit of Leith Hill over the 1000ft mark, and between the years of 1765 to 1765, he built a 19.5m (64ft) 18th century gothic tower, which came to be known as Leith Hill tower. It consisted of two neatly furnished rooms, and had a latin inscription above the door saying the tower was not only for Hull's pleasure, but for the enjoyment of others too.

On a good day it is rumored 13 counties are visible from the top of the tower, and you can see a panorama of London towards the north, all the way south to the English Channel.

Unlucky for us, it wasn't a good day, but a bitterly cold night and was only going to get colder the higher we went, over 1000ft above sea level with the wind biting under clear skies.

Time to break out the big shot. Coffee and Glucozade are optional

Get a line fired over, anchor to the ground the other side and climb. The only way is up! The wind got stronger the higher we went, and so it was a great feeling to be able to climb over the turreted summit, and the views wernt bad either!

Gatwick over to the left, amazing how much air traffic you get to see from high up. Planes hovering above all around like flies around poo!

    And more views

Ok, so not top of the tower...

    ...but lots to see nonetheless...

Group shot before its time to descend. Figure of 8s all round with urban surgeon belaying from the top also. A great night, nice little climb, and feels good to be able to say we were higher than anyone in the SE England, for half an hour at least :)
