Under an Amendment Act 1834, all parishes in Wales and England were grouped together into Poor Law Unions. Each Poor Law Union had to provide a place where people who were unable to support themselves could live and work, known as the workhouse. Due to this, Lluesty Hospital was erected during 1839 by the Hollywell poor Law Union.

In 1965, the North side become the Hollywell community hospital, which operated for 43 years before being closed in 2008 when the new Hollywell Community Hospital opened a few miles down the road. The site had its own on-site parish, designed by a proclaimed local architect in 1883/4 and was feature of this site for many years.

Upon its closure, the site was owned by NHS Wales and was sold at auction in 2011 with full planning permission for 69 dwellings, for the low figure of £275,000. The buyers are said to have sold the North Side of the site within a few months of ownership for an “undisclosed amount.”

I thoroughly enjoyed the explore, and even though the buildings were basically gutted, you could still get a feel for the wards and the morgue was especially interesting. It seems as though there’s been a few fires over recent years, so watch your step if you’re planning a visit.

Access is simple, and there doesn’t appear to me security anymore.

The place is completely gutted and I probably wouldn't make a special trip, but if you're in the area its worth a look. The morgue is definitely the best bit!

I had a drive past here the other day and looked in that bad of a condition I didn't even bother getting out of the van, I did notice another building slightly further up that was brick built, did you manage to have a look round that one?
I'll probably call in next time I'm passing and check out that building.

Well done. It looks way more trashed than it did a few years ago when I went.

It's worth a look to be honest, some of it's pretty cool and very varied! Make sure you find your way to the morgue too, that's the best bit. Yeah the other one is rubbish, not much in there at all... Hence why no pictures.

    Definitely do!

    Thank you
Thank you :) and yeah it's a lot more easily accessible than it was a couple of years back so the teenagers of the village go and drink in there and such. Last time I was there chairs were being thrown through the windows and such! Not great.

Thanks! Yeah I wouldn't want to go at night, hahah. It'll cost a fortune to convert it, I can see why developers are hesitant!

Hi LadyBrade. I'm new to the forum and to exploring these sites. This is reasonably close to me. Would it be a good place to start ?

How do you find these places !!!

Hey there! Yes, definitely a good place to start as it's easy access and not challenging to get around inside.

Just use this forum really, and we also enjoy just finding an area and winging it! Find some great places just driving about.

Great, thanks. I spoke to a colleague today about this place and Pool Parc and he's up for a bit of exploring too.
