I've been looking for a thread I believe I once saw on this website about the empty floors of Sega World being explored long after it closed its doors in 1999.

After closure the bottom 2 floors re-opened under a difference brand named Funland, the upper floors remained empty.
Funland closed abruptly in July 2011 after neglecting to pay their bills.

London Trocadero will close for good on February 25, 2014 | UK Arcade Racers

The building has about 10 stories inside, of which the vast majority is abandoned space once belonging to Sega World.

The first floor, ground floor and basement are still in use by some shops, arcade, and Cineworld cinema housing 7 screens in notorious disrepair.

When Sega World was in operation, the top floor of the complex housed an IMAX screen, this would certainly be a good find if it still exists!

I remember going to sega world as a kid and loving it. Last time i went in the trocadero there were cheap stalls selling bongs etc, I was like jeez wtf happened to this place??!! Can't say I'm surprised it's shutting down, would be a great place to explore if there were a way....

It'd certainly be worth speaking to the owners and seeing if they would allow an authorised exploration before they begin gutting the place, and if not the owners maybe security would allow you to explore the place before it gets handed over for demolition.

Hi sorry signed up specifically for this comment, i'd really like in if this was a go ahead, i've been dying to go back up there for years :D

I used to work at Sega world in 96 or 97.. I forget. First on admissions and then a golf (the guy that gives you credit if the machine eats your coin or token)
Above the Fighting floor were a few more levels that only a few staff members with passes could get to. You were able to walk on the roof and go right up to the video signs in Piccadilly (almost). A maze of walkways and rooms that the public never got to see.

Troc drop, and the video screen on the platform came about a year after sega world opened.

Everytime I pass through there now I feel bad because I know just exactly how much space has been wasted for years.

I remember going to Sega World when working at Dave & Busters (a similar sort of venu)in the UK and having a blast. All the machines were, as per most arcade venues, leased (typically by Leisure Link). The arse well and truly fell out of large leisure centres like this (and the likes of Dave & Busters) and generally most crashed and burned end of 1990's/early millennium. Doubt there would be much left other than empty rooms and plug sockets, that was the case in Dave & Busters when I went it post closure circa 2002 (Dave & Busters Bristol | Whatevers Left | UK Urbex)

The complex as a whole would be good, no doubt :)

I think you're probably 100% correct in that nothing will be there, from downstairs you can still see the outline shadows of the escalators but that's about it. I think i'd just like to see because it was my first ever job at 17, just moved out of parents etc etc. Very memorable time

yeah, I had a Trocadero report up a couple of years back but killed a lot of links in my Photobucket account which subsequently killed the thread. It's a pretty big place but they were converting it at the time so other than a few art murals from the days of Segworld there wasn't actually a great deal to see. With that said the roof was worth it alone and gives great views around picadilly.

I May chuck up some photo's later to satisfy your curiosity. The IMAX screen is certainly not still in situ.

Yeah D&B was the same for me. For anyone else it was just a 40'000 sq ft industrial shed with some nice fittings.

Pretty sure most, if not all of the projectors & screens, are leased directly from IMAX Corporation - The one in Bristol was yoinked out days after it closed.

That screen was everyone's nightmare shift :banghead

Stand on the platform for an hour at a time with the massive screen behind you with the same playlist, over and over and over again. To this day I still can't listen to No Doubt 'Don't Speak'

IIRC the troc warriors or something used to drop down behind the screen and a massive alien came down. Performed a little show then went back up. It kept breaking and we kept complaining the alien was going to fall on our heads. After a while they stopped using it.

I read the troc drop went to Blackpool

Sega Dayton USA Deluxe 8 Car was a beast of a setup. Must of been about £300k worth of kit. Needed testing every day to make sure it worked properly.. obviously.
