visited here with a mate today.

wasn't really planning on an explore but a mate was down, we were in the area so off we went.

i wasn't even planning to take photos as i've been here so many times, but it became apparent very quickly that the place is now being stripped ready for either conversion or demo so i thought best take some pics as may be my last chance.. strangely the grass has all now been cut, all the safes have been cut out and taken away, all the internal doors that were locked are now unlocked with the keys still in them. which was also good as i got into the last bits i hadn't seen before..

last chance for this place. won't be around much longer..

    few different pics than normal..

Just seen this on the BBC website - http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/surrey/7012317.stm

"A special effects technician working on the new Batman film was killed when a vehicle he was in crashed while on a stunt test run. ... An ambulance spokeswoman said he was pronounced dead at a test track in Longcross, near Chertsey, in Surrey."

Got hold of some interesting info about this site from the council...

    1) This has a history of use as a testing site by the MOD and any security measures were in place to provide controlled access for that purpose, not for the protection of the people housed on the site.

Comment: This site was used by the Army Technical Support Agency and thenthe Defence Logistics Organisation. The activities on this site werephysically and functionally separate from the wider DERA site. Indeed Certificates of Existing Lawfulness (RU.02/1414 and RU.04/1297) have been granted for different parts of the wider DERA site as separate planning units.

Building 216 was originally a headquarters for Military Policemen, clerks and then for personnel of the Defence Logistics Organisation.

Building 217 was staff accommodation with males on the ground floor and females on the first floor

Building 218 was staff accommodation for Senior NCO'S, Sergeants and other ranks with dining room, bar and mess

Building 219B was the NAAFI with kitchens, bar and recreational rooms.

Building 220 was the security building at the entrance

There is a security fence around the whole site and it has a separate vehicular access with its own security hut at its entrance. The security fencing was there to protect the buildings and personnel onthis site.

    2) It has never been a formal barracks housing an Army unit with security provided by the Army unit with guard duties performed by the Army unit.

Comment:The use as a barracks does not have to be in connection with a fighting unit of the Army. This was a support unit that had its own needs and housing requirements in order for the Army to be effective. The description of the use class C2A is secure residential accommodation. This site was clearly a secure site and used for residential purposes. It therefore clearly falls within the definition ofC2A and within the description of such uses set out in paragraph 5.6 of the report.

When some Officers have visited the site security was provided by armed military personnel

I visited Longcross on Saturday, The first time I have been back in over 15 years, despite being in the area many times (at least 6 times this year) again I was sad to see it empty and devoid of character. I remember visiting and having some good bashes in that mess.

    Happy Days.

As stated in post #12 Longcross was a MoD (DLO) Support Unit for Military Personnel employed within the DERA establishments in the area. It was not in itself a Military Unit, and was a very relaxed environment.

Looking back at older reports, the site seems to be more overgrown than it used to be (No longer has the grass cut) and far more windows seem to be broken than shown in earlier pictographs for no other reason than vandalism, considering how out of the way the location is, one wonders why they bother?

Oh well, I doubt if I will ever visit it again, and talk is now of housing! But with the recent downturn in the economy, that may now be on hold.
