Whilst looking on google maps I noticed something just outside of Bristol and quite near Nailsea. It looks like storage depots of some kind, possibly military. From google maps it looks like six mounds covered in grass. Could be nothing of interest but just wondered if somebody might know more about this.

Not sure how to pop a link locating the it on google maps but here are the co-ordinates which you pop into the search bar:

It's the Flax Bourton Oil Storage Depot:

Flax Bourton petroleum storage depot is part of the Government Pipelines and Storage System and was built in the late 1950s as a Civil Reserve Site. It was mainly designed for the storage of aviation fuel.

In 2007 planning permission to use the site for storage of fuel being brought in and out by road and pipeline was refused. This had been applied for by The Defence Fuel Groups, Wimborne on behalf of the Secretary of State for Defence.

In 2006 an application was made to store fuel brought in by road, rail and pipeline. This was withdrawn.

In 1999/2000 The most interesting planning application was to use the rail terminal to load stone products from Stancombe Quarry. The stone would have come from the quarry by conveyor under the A370 and then over the mainline.
That was refused and then an amended application was to limit the activity from 0500 to 2300hrs. It was withdrawn.

The same government department was still applying for planning permission for the Hallen site for fuel transfer by road, rail and pipeline in 2006, with no objections, presumably to keep their options open should the need arise. This was over 30 years after the sidings were reported closed.

This is Flax Bourton from above

It'd likely be something similar to these sites:

    Butter Hill PSD
    Carlett Park PSD

and the tanks would more likely look like this internally

Brilliant, thanks for the excellent and detailed info guys. Shame it wasn't something worthy of an explore. But I take it it's not being used currently then.

Well I put a lot of thought into it...

........Well to be exact, I looked at the co-ordinates the OP gave, and spent 45 seconds on Google (which the OP presumably didn't try) :D

From a 60s town planners point of view...
If it looks like a bunker, smells like a bunker, and lets light in like a bunker then logic dictates that it is a library, school or other public building.
You are looking at nailsea public library..
