The lost village of Southview! So many great memories of exploring this place over the years and seeing it gradually revert to nature.. Access recently became a bit more difficult due to new fences erected by the theme park (i use the term loosely!) so a bit of scrambling and route finding from the other direction was called for.

We call it a village but really it once was an large manor house with associated buildings..

Here is a little potted version of the history:

In 1928 a great landslip took out the Old Blackgang Road and cut off access to the Southview estate from one side. Around this time a further landslip collapsed the main house at Southview.

The land with it's gatehouse became a campsite and later a nudist camp. Around 1994 another landslip occurred on the other side of the cliff top estate effectively cutting off all road access to the site.

From this point onwards the land has been accessible only by foot, following precarious cliff top paths to reach the site old vehicles and caravans were landlocked on the short remaining length of road with no chance of recovery. For a period the site operated as a backpackers campsite before closing and being taken over by a series of hippies and travelers, or those who just liked the solitude.
In more recent years the site was put up for auction but the sale fell through, a story for another time. It was always said the gatehouse, which was still standing was cursed and when the travelers lived there they stayed in the huts and caravans. A couple of Polish guys did a lot of work on the gatehouse but just as they had finished tragedy struck and the house was burnt to the ground.

Since then access has become more difficult, the residents have moved on and the land has gradually reverted back to nature.

    Hope you enjoy!

The remains of and old fountain, on a large rock above this there used to be a monument to Shakespeare which was 'acquired' by another manor house in the '80s:

And onto the basement of the old house, crap pics as balanced on a lawnmower in a swamp.
