Mansfield General is what I would consider a traditional NHS Hospital - a Victorian hospital that's been rather awkwardly expanded and altered during its years of operation to meet the changing demands of healthcare during the last century. The small Victorian buildings are dwarfed by a larger 1930s extension and further altered in the 1970s by some rather bland additions.

The hospital closed in 1993 and all services moved to Kings Mill Hospital, which in recent years has transformed into one of those PFI built affairs. Mansfield General has remained abandoned for 17 years, much to the displeasure of the local residents and while some 'cosmetic' work to the exterior was done on instruction of Mansfield District Council last year, there hasn't been any effort to redevelop the site.

This had been one I'd thought about looking at for a while, however always seemed to find something else to do. Raptor Jesus and myself decided to pop over one morning and spent a few hours poking around the place... and it was good, infact I quite liked it.

    Anyhow...
