I somtimes wonder when the steady stream of these simply sublime manufacturing sites will dry up! This one will go into the list of all time 'derelict manufacturing' greats for sure! Donkins, Cellophane, Cranes, BUSM, Grieves etc!

Grieve's has been a little project of ours for about 6 months now. We originally got the heads up from Dave and Joe that the place had closed so of course we scheduled it in for a look asap! We were suitably impressed on our first attempt, it was both big and old, two essentials of a top class factory explore, but annoyingly, no sooner as i had made it inside, the county's loudest alarm bell started singing.. This bugger was not going to be simple.. You could literally hear it two miles away!!

Next attempt we went along with our two informants and with a little bit of PIR dodging managed to at least get in a quick game of snooker before we once again had to do a sharpish runner but still not enough of it covered for a report!

So it was third time lucky as they say, this time we found a different way in and to our delight the PIRs were now dead. Game On!

I believe the company itself is still going via is main works in Leicester. The Coalville factory however is due to become a ASDA sometime in the near future.. The site manufactured Needles for use in the hosiery and knitwear industry that was so ingrained in that area of the Midlands. The manufacturing activities on the site appeared to have been scaled back quite a bit for some time, some areas were very derelict, yet in contrast there were some very well intact rooms to keep the balance. The drawing office for example was crammed with epic..

Il let the photos do the rest of the talking, more of these please! Keep them eyes open! :thumb
