When I was in Birmingham recently I spotted this random door in the middle of the street and couldn't resist a couple of photos.
It's BT notice clearly identifies it as belonging to them and it's close proximity to a certain underground exchange suggests to me that it might be connected.
Can anybody shed any light on it?

That's Anchor. If you ever see it open, get the hell in there.

I don't think it is, before the buildings to the left of it were completed, there was a sunken shopping street (including a pub!) and at the end of it was a substation. I think it is more likely to be that than Anchor, however if there is a new map of Anchor, I would like to see it lol

That wouldn't mean that if the door was open, I wouldn't go down it though:D

It blatantly goes to a large, unmovable, underground BT premises. It's not like a little patch panel or something behind those doors.

I spoke to a bt engineer who was working nearby there a few months ago and he said it was a cable run and did not lead to the anchor.

A Google Map showing where it is would not go amiss

It was the 3 abloy locks on the door which had me excited. As Bubblehead said it's most likely a cable run with ALOT of wiring/cables.

hopefully that will show the location, just as colmore row meets colmore circus queensway. It still shows the queensway going all the way round the wesleyan building as it used to many years ago. That public square has been there for a couple of years now though. In the 90's there used to be a subway that went under colmore circus which is where i assume access to the cable run/anchor would have originally been though.

Incidentally there was a fair sized hole dug in colmore circus queensway in the summer between the wesleyan building and the one frank knight is based in, i think it was only a storm water holding tank as part of the prep work for the tramway extension. Some of the manholes round that way do look promising though ;)
