The Mill started life in 1888 to help satisfy the insatiable appetite of the worlds demand for cotton. In all there are three mills on the site, No’s1, 2 and 3. The last and most impressive No3 was completed in 1909, each with their own boiler and engine house. The mills were a massive employer in the town for over 60 years before cheap imports deemed the mills redundant. The ensuing 40 years of neglect / stripping have left the mills in a sad state, however when you have a nose around a few gems still remain.

    The Future
The Manchester based owners are looking to redevelop the site with apartments after many a failed promise from the local council to regenerate the site. Some of the buildings have been afforded, for what its worth, the status of a grade 2 listing.
