I doubt many people will be heading over to Lantau Island, but just in case I thought I would post this bonus find from our recent holiday to Hong Kong. We had endured a very windy cable car ride (with disturbing 'oscillations') up to Ngong Ping to see the huge buddha at Po Lin Monastery. After the breathtaking climb and the sight of the buddha I decided to head off on my own to find the Wisdom Path, armed with my 70-200mm lens on the DSLR. Along the way I stumbled across several derelict houses and decided to take a look at a couple. The zoom lens really doesn't work in confined spaces, so apologies for the iPhone photos. I couldn't work out when the houses might have last been used as the decay (lack of glass and plenty of rust) would suggest several decades, but the fan and some other bits suggest that maybe people were sleeping effectively open air during the summer more recently.

Here is a link for info on the monastery - http://www.plm.org.hk/eng/home.php

Kitchen - easy to keep clean

Staircase - would have gone up but was short of time and looked like a pile of junk anyway

    Fireplace with traditional sweeping brush

    Staircase being reclaimed by nature

    Ancient air-con unit

Lots of electric fans about so guess it must be pretty hot up here in the summer

    Staircase - nice, sturdy, tiled

Fridge was a gonner - pretty sure there is no electric here anymore anyway

    Waiting room?? Very colour co-ordinated!

    Stylish outdoor furniture

Nice little kitchen garden all laid out in beds, and the balcony - must have been idyllic at one point

Bedrooms were all small and it looked like they really packed them in. Again, thought has gone into matching the decor with the accessories

    Beautiful view

    Dodgy wiring

    Not sure - barbeques?

Three in a row - like the colour

    The balcony

The side view of one of the houses

Basically trashed and nothing stopping me walking in, but it was a peaceful and pretty place so hope the photos can show a little of the atmosphere even though they are not up to the usual standard for the site (or myself). Cheers
