Rather glad that I got to see this, though outside shots were made impossible due to the land owner and farmer deciding to move the hay right outside; so tad disappointing that I didn't get a nice shot from the front but regardless, this was great fun to explore! Under the house itself I believe there are the old servant quarters, these apparently are like a maze and though I found the ladder going down, there was no way I was going there alone.

    History
Built in 1849 by William Burn, Poltalloch house was given to the Malcolms of Poltalloch on the site formally used for a castle. In 1957 the roof was removed to save money in tax and since then the house has been falling into ruin.

No idea, most of the floor of the main house is solid so it's likely still all accessible but alone and without a torch meant that I decided against a cheeky peek. From what I read somewhere the underground part is like a rabbit warren so maybe one day I can go back with others and check it out.

Wow, now this is out of the way and I've never worked out what it was before. I spotted it from the road 18 months ago and kept losing it trying to get to it. I think we spent something like five miles walking round in a huge circle - the woods around it were so thick. There's a creepy but very much intact church next to it that looks like it's still trading in spite of the obvious lack of a congregation!

    Cheers for sharing :thumb

The church was where I parked; you're right it's still in use but rarely so it made the perfect place. From there you can cut through the trees. :) I wanted to go to Portavadie but the ferry was at awkward times and too expensive!! Though as it turned out one of the people I was training for work owns a boat so said if I get booked back up there he'll take me across. Fingers crossed!

I've been to Portavadie a couple of times when I've been out that way... get in quick, they looked like they were gearing up to demolish Polphail and a few smaller bits had been cleared. Mind you, that's been on the cards for years and the bats have reprieved it every time :)
