My first report- Go easy on me.

I know only too well that this Pontin's site has been covered a few times, but I was holidaying nearby recently and I stumbled upon a way in. I got up at 5:15am the next day and went inside.

What I'm aiming to provide here is an update... A kind of "It's still here, still standing, and look how overgrown it's become". I doubt there's any surprises here, and apologies for the lack of internal shots.

I doubt that much of a history lesson is required, but to my reckoning, the site has been standing empty for almost five and a half years now, having closed up shop in January 2009. The local corporate estate agents have the site listed as 'under offer', looking for it to be used as a leisure site once again, after considerations for housing and supermarkets have fallen through.

I didn't go too far in, as I was alone and actually got a little nervous... being my first time and all that. While I was in there, I met a cat, a fox and a young deer!

The path from the car park. Not quite covered yet.

    The main drive.

    Blank windows.

    Concrete cracking, paint peeling.

Doesn't look bad for five years with no cleaning.

You wouldn't get much sun in those chalets now.

View towards the swimming pool and the climbing wall.

Main reception... with bushes in the guttering.

    General overgrowth.

I believe this is the rear of the Queen Victoria pub.

These last four pics were all taken from outside the fence as I toured the entire perimeter of the site.

    I hope 14 pics isn't considered excessive.
The obligatory but very sincere "Thanks for looking"!

Not really any more internals, just a few shots taken through windows, with lots of reflections!

nowt wrong with solo exploring, Ive spent a good few hours in loads of places wandering around quite happily on my own, as im sure quite a few other explorers do too...besides you werent alone... you had a fox and cat and deer for company apparently! :D

I take it there was no way into the main building, or the queen vic ?

To be honest I didn't even try to get in the main buildings. I had lost my nerve by that point. I think it's something to do with how easy I found it to get in... Even though it was 5:30 in the morning, I still felt there must be somebody else there, I dunno.

I'm back home in Leicester now, and looking back, I wish I had gone farther in. Next time eh?

Not a bad first report and nice sharp photographs, you got the enthusiasm to get up that early and have a mooch around which is great, onwards and upwards for some future explores!
