Pool Park was built as a manor house between 1826-29 for the second Lord Bagot. The house was sold to the Tate family as a family home. In 1937 the house was sold to the North Wales Counties Mental Hospital who developed the property into an overflow hospital to relieve the overcrowded Denbigh Asylum nearby. The hospital had accommodation for 87 patients and closed in 1990, shortly before the closure of Denbigh Asylum.

An application was submitted to convert the property into a 60-apartment residential home. However, the plans were rejected and the house has since fallen into a severe state of disrepair since.

Such a terrible shame to see this lovely place go further downhill with each report, if I remember rightly the big problem for developers and the council is agreeing how to get decent vehicular access onto the main road. Looks like it may be destined for derpsville for a while longer then. Cheers for posting this up mate.

I did take the obligatory staircase shots but I thought I'd post something a little different as you rarely see anything but the stairs on most reports.

The external frontage of the building looks to be the only thing left of merit these days

All they seem to have done is continued to remove the wood panels they were told to stop removing to sell, ages ago.

Only surprised it's not been burnt to the ground yet

As you can see from the 2nd to last picture, its literally falling apart on itself. A friend was in another room and was heavy footed with a few steps and debris fell on me in the room I was in. The only structurally safe bit in there seems to be the staircase. Most rooms have a dodgy floor and/or ceiling, the kitchen area is especially interesting for that.

It looked like a section of the building that had collapsed in from the side and ceiling - A feeble attempt at barricading.

Sadly the 10-20mm Sigma (15mm with 1.5 crop) just barely allowed me to get both staircase pillars in the shot but one of them is slightly out of focus and I couldn't go further back any more as I already had weight resting on the dodgy window cover and didn't want to chance falling through it.

Nicely done. It's a shame such a beautiful building has been trashed so much :thumb
