Well this place isn't what initially meets the eye, and we discovered that it's a bit of a deception.

We've probably all seen the typical view of Poplar Baths...

showing the big hole that looks like a deep swimming pool with a house and brickwork in it. This is not in the swimming pool, it's on top of it. A floor has been constructed over the pool and the building partitioned into 3 or more sections by the large walls.

The two walls are recent additions built from concrete blocks, and these walls hide what would of been the viewing galleries and the poolside. Damn shame.

You can see this by going down to the 'vapour rooms' aka Saunas in the basement and taking a detour to the service tunnel around the pool...

remember this is below ground level, from here the construction of the pool is more obvious.

This picture shows the modern construction of the walls...

The site was latterly used as a construction training area and there are signs of decorating, carpentry, bricklaying and plastering in almost every room, even in the service tunnels.

    Some more interior shots...

    The mural...

    in the entrance lobby...

From the roof, towards Canary Wharf...

Overall it's a stinking pigeony mess, that's been heavily damaged by the building training scheme.

Found one, an old picture of the interior of Poplar baths, and a comparison...
