Right, I've just got a contract as a photographers assistant editing photos for a tennis tournament while he shoots them, sounds good eh?

The catch is... Its for 2 weeks from June the 15th and its in Sweden, now I don't have a passport and I don't have enough time to apply for a passport and get one as I've not had the need to travel outside the country.

So heres the question, is there any way to get to Sweden without a passport? I remember going to France a few times when I was a kid and not needing one, but I can't find any definitive answers anywhere.

    Cheers :thumb

You can apply and get a passport within the day, if you go up to the passport office next to Victoria Station in London.

Would not even contemplate going anywhere abroad without a passport

Not if its your first adult passport (I'm a big boy now :p) that only applies - as far as I know - for renewing passports.

You can get a passport in 1 day if you travel to London, although it does cost a bit more to do.

However as Sweden is a member of the EU you can travel between EU member states using a form of recognised ID with the EU symbol on. Currently in the UK the only type of ID you can get like this is a Driving License although the new Identity card if/when you can get one will also allow free travel within europe.

I happen to know however that you don't have a driving license do you my Shadow sir, so I think you may need to get your backside to London.

You're right, I just read the website.

Officially you can't travel without one, but if you are going on a ferry then quite often you don't get checked on the way out, but you almost definitely will on the way back - Britain is quite defensive of its borders. If you are flying, then you will be checked at the airport no question about it, and you won't be able to travel without a passport or other EU recognised form of ID.

    Mike.

    EDIT: Provisional doesn't count AFAIK.

European citizens have the right to enter, reside and remain in the territory of any other Member State for a period of up to three months simply by presenting a valid passport or national identity card: no other formality is required. If they intend to remain for a period exceeding three months, a residence permit must be obtained. The conditions for granting a residence permit depend on the status of the citizen (employed or self-employed person, student, retired or inactive person).

Have you tryed ringing up the passport office to see what can be done as they are the ones who will be able to tell you what to do, and you can hopfully be sure what they tell you is the truth.

You also have to think about how you intend to travel - talk about ID cards and driving Licenses may cover you legally - but no airline will let you board without a passport - because they, as the carrier, are liable if they carry 'illegals' - so enforce even tighter controls than the border authorities.

hope you find a way mate :thumb
