    RAF Marsworth - buckinghamshire - Jan 2011

Me and eddbmxdude went to a couple of places today. We had both realised that Marsworth wasn't on here and we thought it necessary to get some exploring done.

After doing a little digging, I found that in 1917 it was briefly used as an aerodrome during WW1.
It re-opened in 1942 as a satellite station to RAF Wing. Shortly after being re-opened it was then transferred to the US air force which flew B-25s and B-24s out.
Then in 1944 a special unit took charge which handled operations like night leaflet drops over occupied europe.
The airfield was shut in 1952 where judging by the condition of alot of the buildings that remained were turned into cattle sheds and such.

Four large over ground tanks still stand.

There were about 4 of these buildings which were converted into cattle sheds.

We came accross this huge heavey door leading into a very dark and very damp room......Bomb store?? Prison cell??

Outside next to the pump house.

We found two bunkers in pretty good nick.

And this funny thing which would have been next to the runway.

In this picture, you can just see the tip of the 'firing range' over on the far right.

The moss covered concrete where the planes would have shimmed.

I showed this picture to my dad and he reckons its whats left of a firing range.
