RAF Sculthorpe opened in 1943 as a typical bomber station with the "A" runway layout, the main runway being 6000ft and the secondary runways of 4200ft. It was used by 2 Group and 100 Group until in 1944 it was closed to be upgraded to Very Heavy Bomber status. In 1949 USAF had B29s stationed here.
During the Cold War of the 50/60s Sculthorpe was a major nuclear bomber base. Since the Americans left the base has been used by various units whilst their own airfields have undergone upgrade.

Visited on the same day as I visited West Raynham with mattdonut and Goldie87, Was a really great one this!
