Driving past the last couple of days the buildings on the north side of the A550 are starting to come down. One's already gone, and one is ready for demo. Hope they keep the hangars, at least.

As there's been a to let / for sale sign up for a while, does this mean the MOD don't own it any more?

It closed in 2006 when the remaining RAF Radio Techs moved to RAF Leeming. The camp had three sites, one was sold and industrialised some years ago the second is still in use by DARA and does third line servicing for the electronics of all three services and South Camp was sold in 2010 and will be part of the Gateway to Wales project.
The buildings on the frontage all have asbestos contamination and are prime commercial sites so I suppose they are the buildings being demolished. I understand the hangars at not currently at risk but I will check.

    Re:Friendly Warning

The South Camp where the buildings are being demolished is patrolled by a civilian security firm, I don't know to what level.
The East Camp and particularly the DARA site is a very sensitive, high security installation. I have recently had official visits to both there and to Capenhurst and would say that levels of security are the same. Those guys are serious don't p*ss them off.

The South Camp at RAF Sealand is being demolished without notice . It was purchased by Praxis Real Estate Management an Isle of Man holding company last year.
The vendor and Clwyd Powis Architectural Trust (CPAT) informed Praxis that there was a Level 4 survey of the buildings necessary before they could be demolished. This would cost over £100,000.
Without notice and with no survey the destruction of the buildings began.
Many of the buildings already destroyed had a unique history and dated to WW1. Leonard Cheshire and Johnny Johnson served there.
A request to photograph the historic Officers Mess and quarters was met with a refusal on Health and Safety grounds.
The quarters in the attached photographs will be destroyed by the end of this week.

This is a real shame, I did some googling and I read that CADW didn't change their decision to not protect the buildings despite evidence presented by local historians and CPAT (March 2010).

    http://www.cpat.org.uk/cpat/review/cpat0910.pdf (page 12)

So I guess the fine for not commissioning a level 4 record is less than the cost of one.

This is quite timely considering flintshire council received a planning app for the demo of the nearby John Summers HQ last December, (the clocktower building is surviving).

I will guess that maybe it came from the WW1 airfield at loughbrough as it seems to be the only place in the local area where such a building may have being erected.Unless someone else knows better.
Going back to Sealand that is just a such a disgusting act of vandalism.

It appears that Cadw were approached some time ago concerning the listing of a number of buildings on this site but they decided that there were so many changes to the buildings over the years that they were not representative of the original architecture.
It is reported this week that Pam Roberts of Flintshire County Council Planning claimed in reply to an enquiry that Praxis did not require permission to start demolition.
Praxis are not responding to anyone.
It appears that all of the slates are being removed and stacked and the bricks are being recovered. As can be seen from the above pictures of the Officers Mess buildings by tomorrow or Friday the last slates will have been removed and the buildings will be demolished.
It should provide some interesting photographs.
