Rossendale General Hospital started life as a workhouse in 1868. Inmates of all ages mostly took part in hand weaving.it changed into the Rossendale Hospital in the 1930s. It was further extended with an annexe to the east. Some parts of the hospital are still live the and hospital is now just used for day patients.

This is the closed section of the hospital which closed in 2010 the inside seems to have taken a nose dive of late and the inside is slowly becoming more and more well, knackered. There are plans to demolish this fantastic looking building and replace it with modern houses. I'm not too sure of the decision that has been made but from what I can find the vast majority of local residents are against the plans. And I agree with them.
