Went to explore this June 2014, with a few non members. The place is in pretty average condition. spent a good few hours inside exploring starting at the top and working our way down. When we reached the bottom someone climbed in the window and scared us to death! Turned out he was the caretaker and there was some other unwanted visitors outside!

    History (stolen from other sites)

Built in 1938, the deserted Royal York Hotel in Ryde, Isle of Wight quickly became a popular destination for high-society holiday-makers but was forced to close in 2006 due to a dwindling number of guests. Today the hotel stands ruined and abandoned, but retaining the same period features that made it popular.

This is my first post so let me know what you think.

Hi there. I live in Southampton and just found out about this hotel. How did you get in? Sorry if that sounds stupid - I'm new here. I want to go there for a day to make time lapse video in 4K. In general do you inform anyone when you go to places like that? In March they will start some work there so I need to hurry.

Someone didn't read the FAQ's ;) Taking the time to research places and thinking through your options is part of the game; so go give it a crack and see what happens. You'll end up with many interesting stories that way, and likely enjoy it more - rather than being handed the keys to the door, so to speak.

Like your sewing machine shot quarryman! :thumb

You got me - I didn't read it. But let me put it this way - I have family, kids, full time job and photography, filmmaking and composing music after work. Believe you me I don't have much time left for doing intense research. So if there is a shortcut I will take it with pleasure. Easy to say but wait for some results and then you might change you mind about me :). Any help will be much appreciated (including nickname or full name in titles if I get the chance to make that video). I see it as a lifetime opportunity and would be a very good addition to my portfolio.
And now I will check the FAQ section :)

I just read the FAQ and it looks like I misunderstood the purpose of this website. Sorry guys. If the idea is to keep things secret than if anyone could help just PM me. Thx.

If you ask you either don't know much how to use time lapse in a creative way plus you don't realize what are the benefits of using it even if there are no clouds moving over the sky :). There are many time lapse videos from abandoned places like this.

Ok - first of all you have output material in 5K resolution in RAW format! I use Canon 5D Mark II. You can edit photo in a way and detail that is hard to achieve while editing video. So using equipment that cost about £2000 I have a video that looks like it was made using £50 000 camera gear. And no I don't plan to shoot sky through the window. I don't need anything to move in the scene, not even shadows. I use camera rail so it's camera that moves. Place like this hotel is quite creepy - I have a good idea how to make it even more creepy using simple tricks. All I need is a day inside.

Never heard of this place before, checking the forums and there's hardly any other posts. Look like a good little explore. May have to take a little peak myself as it looks nice inside, not too keen on the hefty £20+ price tag coming from the mainland though if it goes wrong :/
