'The Hotties' is the nickname given to a stretch of canal in St Helens.

Pilkingtons glass nearby uses water from the incoming canal for the glass making process and kicks it back out into the canal as hot water and so 'The Hotties' came into existence.

the water from pilkingtons glass is also pumped into an underground culverted brook ,the fish drop underground via a canal overflow which falls into the brook which runs alongside the canal

In the early 70's a local petshop went out of business and an urban myth states that the remaining fish stock was dumped into the "warm" canal.

The local anglers began to catch the oddest fish ever seen.

Tropical fish were breeding like wildfire and for more than a decade 'The Hotties' was the place to fish for the "unusual".
