So since Wildboyz left -Ah I do miss going out for a good old explore then resting at home knowing a informative and proof read report will appear in a few hours out of thin air - I decided time to get exploring again and thanks to *********** for giving me the kick back into it with the reports I've been reading!

So after having an eye on this one since June I had only looked and not put much thought into going as I was planning to go with a friend. Sadly they couldn't make it and life just got busy! So after seeing nightcallers thread I decided it was time to get to it!

Since it was my first ever solo explore I did the amateurish mistake and left my camera at home! After a sprint home and back to the bus it only took me an 1+ walk from town so another taxi later and I made it! Not to be put off I set straight to work and felt what I thought was good progress, until I found myself in a shop that wasn't in the complex nor outside of it and all I could do was pine for the castle market through some shop front -I thought window shopping was the other way round? :p: -On my retreat I somehow managed to knock into anything and everything there was to knock over and tread on, numerious times. After getting back out and seeing some security arrive I took an to an hour hiding out in the cold air watching the shadows against the wall from the car lights, eventually it went back to one man and his PG tips so I tried to find a way in. After 3 hours and being a bit of an idiot :banghead I was ready to give up after trying most of what I thought were pausable ways in and I have to say I would not have made it in if I didnt already know someone else had! Eventually making it in I set to work on my first ever trip to the market.

    The history
A Former indoor market it was recently replaced by the Moor Market based futher south in the city centre in 2013. The Castle Market as appropriately named is built on the remains of the old Sheffield Castle which can still be visited via a guided tour, the oldest part of the market is the fish and vegetable court which was built around the inter-war period while the rest was added in the 1960's by J.L. Womersly and Andrew Darbyshire. In total the building had two main floors which were both accessible from street level while a higher level had several more shops and access to an office building which contained departments such as a sheffield maps -noted from a sign during the explore- which all later moved when the market closed.

The Moor has been in partnership with private developers and the council which meant a multi-storey car park was built on Eyre street while current plans for the building suggest that the exisiting complex is demolished to open up a pedestrain route.

Apologies for the bad quality photos, I had to use a recorder with light from my torch so they were taken as more of proof of visit rather then being rather of pleasent viewing. If anyone knows where I can get a good DLSR camera that wouldn't cost an arm and a leg I would appreciate the tip! :thumb

    Hi Mate

I'm assuming these pics were before you'd gone home to get your camera? Looks like you've used a phone and learnt the latter is often no substitute for the former.

From what I've seen of this place it looks a steady explore, you'd do better probably removing this report, sorry to be harsh but the images are poor, can't even tell what most of them are. Have a revisit and take some better photos.

You really want a tripod and a long exposure, a good example of such methods are overflowing from the underground section, stick at it though :thumb

Well done for eventually getting in  i think i"d have given up much earlier in the night TBH and returned better equipped :)

Unfortunately have to agree with the pics mate, it"s one of the worst situations for piccy taking as you know & really a decent camera & Tripod are a necessity at the very least :)

That said you"ve done it & hopefully it"s not been sealed up now for a return visit/s

Must admit i love the 2nd to last pic the best though, i can"t decide whether it"s Victorian-esque or just PS1 Silent Hill........add the noise and it"s Silent Hill

Never seen a recorder used for taking pics, and not seen or heard one used since Junior School TBH :D

Sure we"ll bump into you soon, and have you trained up to give WB a run for his money by the time he returns :)
