i noticed this place the other day, not sure what it is apart from a building with no roof and loads of trees

Sherwood's Lane, Liverpool - Google Maps

if you zoom in over the field behind the school to the right of that is an oval road the building is on the left side of the oval, anyone been there or have any ideas of what it is?

Whatever the existing buildings are is probably what it was. It's exactly the same shape as the others. That car park used to be the isolation hospital.

Found a bit of history.Fazakerley Cottage Homes

Can't seem to find out what actually happened to that particular cottage but there is a mention on one forum in 2009,"I was brought up in the FCH and spent some time in Cosh 15 which is the one burned out next to what was the club and over the road from the church".
The area has been put up for development & is now called new Hall.It seems that a lot of the cottages are empty.Apparently they were all named after trees, number 15 being Juniper.http://www.urbansplash.co.uk/documents/brochure/new_hall_plan.pdf

I know this place, the cottages now house community mental health teams. My better half is a community mental health nurse. It was originally an open air orphanage, although if you look closely you will see that the whole thing used to be a compound and closed off from the outside area. My mum worked for the social services when I was a kid and we used to go here and she'd tell m the history of it, shall have to give her a call.

I do know that the building you're looking at used to be a villa, used to house the senior staff who worked there. The whole top left corner is no longer in use. The villa opposite used to be the contact centre for kids in care, I still remember the massive staircase and green tiles on the wall.

This is an extract from an email I've had from the historian for the site.

"The Cottage Homes, Fazakerley, was built to accommodate up to 600 children, the boys were in the cottages on the left side of the avenue (The side the odd numbers, so Cottage 15 was a boys' cottage) and the girls on the right side (The even numbers). There would be anything from 22 to 30 children in each cottage at any one time.

Cottage 15 was set alight by arsonists as far as I know. The reason nothing has been done about the building, and, indeed, the other buildings, is that they are listed and cannot be externally altered. This restricts their alternative uses somewhat. Hence, they have fallen into disrepair.

....we hold a reunion at the Homes each year in June. This year the date of the reunion is Saturday, 15th June, starting at about 12:00 noon until 8:00pm. "

Had a quick wander around this place this morning... Upper floors completely inaccessible, roof mostly fallen in, not a lot of interest to photograph, but nonetheless a good find and interesting site. :)

This is literally right on my doorstep. I had a poke around here about a year back, interesting but totally trashed.. If you want to know anything about these houses or any history of the local area, the man in the newsagents by the station has all sorts of photo's and knows all about it, if you catch him when the shops quiet he'll tell you all about it..:)
